Polperro Restaurants

Recommended by 'Which Hotel guide' the Cottage Restaurant is a family run licensed establishment that also offers bed and breakfast. Local fish is listed on the blackboard, and at anytime could include lobster, crab, Dover sole, brill, turbot, skate or bass. The aim of the restaurant is to have at least eight varieties available daily. As well as prime West Country beef and Cornish chicken there is also a choice of vegetarian dishes and excellent home made desserts.

A recent addition to the quaint fishing village of Polperro is Couch’s Great House Restaurant. It was opened under the direction of Executive Head Chef Richard McGeown, who honed his culinary skills under the likes of Gordon Ramsay, Marco Pierre White and Raymond Blanc. The restaurant itself is a mixture of old Cornish world charm and a sophisticated Macintosh influence of modern furniture. The wood burning style stoves provide an environment conducive for a relaxing and enjoyable evening out. Produce is purchased fresh each day from local dairies, farms, fisheries and orchards.

0pen for dinner all year round from 6:30pm Tuesday to Saturday, Trawlers on the Quay is considered by many to be one of the finest seafood restaurants in Cornwall. It offers a stunning harbour side setting as well as a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. The cuisine is modern European using first class ingredients sourced from excellent Cornish suppliers. Trawlers is the only restaurant in Cornwall to have received a Gold Award from Taste of the West in 2007. It is also listed in the 2008 Hardens and Which Food Guides.

The House on the Props is full of historic interest with nautical and smuggling memorabilia and open to non residents for superb English breakfasts, light lunches and afternoon teas. It transforms into a cosy, traditional restaurant in the evening. The beams and masts in the restaurant came from the Maverine, a ship which sunk in around 1700 and the building is often referred to as the house on stilts because of its unique design. The menus consist of a wide range of locally sourced produce with fish dishes all dependant on the days local catch.
